Introduction: India’s Bilateral Investment Treaties 2.0: Imagining a New Model of Investment Promotion and Protection

International Investment Law (IIL) is one of the vibrant areas of public international law. According to some scholars, international investment treaty negotiations and practice constitute one of the most active areas of international law-making during the last fifty years. IIL is formed through a network of bilateral investment treaties (BITs), investment-related chapters that are part of preferential or free trade agreements (FTA), and certain categories of economic cooperation treaties.
