Research on the Mechanism and Prevention of Overall Instability Type Rockburst in Extra-Thick Coal Seams

Unlike common local rockbursts that mainly occur within the influence range of abutment pressure on the mining face and appear on the roof, floor, and two sides of the roadway, overall instability type rockbursts mainly occur in island working faces and large roadway coal pillar areas, causing serious damage to the coal wall of the working face and the large area of the upper and lower flat roadways. Based on the analysis of several cases of overall instability type rockburst accidents, this chapter uses field investigation, theoretical analysis, and field monitoring methods to classify overall instability type rockbursts according to engineering characteristics and rockburst manifestation characteristics, studies the occurrence mechanisms of various types of overall instability type rockbursts, and proposes prevention and control measures, in order to provide a reference for the prevention of overall instability type rockbursts in coal mines.
