Passing on the Fire of No-Nukes: The Long-Existing Grassroots Anti-Nuclear Forces in Japan

This introductory chapter takes readers to the reality of Fukushima, soon after the contaminated water from the nuclear reactor was discharged on 24 August 2023, and presents future concerns, fears, and continuing struggles of the communities. The authors endeavor to listen intently to these small yet enduring voices promoting cross-border empathy, mutual assistance, and solidarity. A converged, sustained struggle is needed to resist the Japanese government’s discharge of nuclear-contaminated water which is a hazard for all living creatures.
