Investigate the Effectiveness of Vastu Features Using Computational Fluid Dynamics

The Vastu is an ancient science of providing harmonious energy inside a structure. It has evolved from a thousand years ago based on strong philosophy. The main principle is to maintain the balance between dwelling and the elements of the universe for happiness and comfort. But Vastu is a predominant factor in the construction field. Sufficient scientific investigations are not there to study the science behind Vastu features. Therefore, Investigations are needed to follow the Vastu features meaningfully. So those Vastu features should have been verified through an engineering perspective and principles with a computational fluid dynamics simulation platform. In Vastu, predefined exterior door configurations include one, two, and three doors along with favorable and unfavorable door directions. In the present study, these favorable and unfavorable door configurations were compared by calculating the Predicted mean value and Predicted percentage dissatisfaction for the three configurations across various door directions. This investigation was carried out during the warmest period of the Colombo region. Based on the comparison of thermal index values, it indicates the correct indoor condition. As a result of this study Predicted mean value shows a range of almost 1 to 2. So Vastu Shastra’s recommendations are beneficial to the inhabitants.
