Application of the Internet of Things in the Healthcare Field

The application of the Internet of Things (IoT) in health care has introduced a paradigm shift, revolutionizing patient care, management, and overall healthcare infrastructure. One key area of impact is remote patient monitoring, where IoT devices such as wearable sensors and health trackers allow for continuous real-time monitoring of vital signs, chronic conditions, and medication adherence. This not only enhances the early detection of health issues but also facilitates personalized and proactive healthcare interventions. Moreover, smart medical devices, ranging from connected insulin pumps to smart beds, contribute to streamlined healthcare delivery, improved treatment outcomes, and enhanced patient experiences. This paper explores the transformative impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) on the healthcare sector, investigating the multifaceted applications and benefits of IoT technologies. The integration of IoT in health care involves the deployment of interconnected devices, ranging from wearable sensors to smart medical equipment and remote monitoring systems. The paper delves into the ways in which these devices facilitate real-time data collection, enabling continuous monitoring of vital signs, medication adherence, and other critical health metrics. In this context, the objective of this research is to conceptualize an Internet of Things (IoT) medical app. The envisioned system encompasses an array of sensors dedicated to capturing heart rate, frequency, and motion data, which are then processed through the Arduino microcontroller. Seamlessly integrated with an Android mobile application, the data is transmitted to the app via Bluetooth, ensuring real-time updates for medical personnel to monitor patients’ well-being. This innovative approach empowers doctors to oversee their patients’ health status, enabling nurses to efficiently manage access to waiting rooms for appointments. The implementation relies on the synergy of the Firebase platform, Arduino technology, and Android programming.
