Climate Finance and Investment in Africa: A Case Study of Ghana
摘要
This chapter discusses the critical issues surrounding climate finance and investment in Africa, with a specific focus on Ghana. It is evident that climate change poses a significant threat to the development and survival of the African continent. Particularly noteworthy are the escalating temperatures, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and rising sea levels, which have profound implications for African nations. While the Ghanian government has taken steps to create a favourable climate finance environment through various policies and institutions, obstacles continue to persist, including inadequate financial resources, weak institutional frameworks, and a lack of coordination, all of which hinder Ghana’s ability to attract climate finance. This chapter stresses the need for a coordinating mechanism involving government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and local communities. Additionally, social and environmental safeguards must be integrated into climate finance, which would promote sustainable development, poverty reduction, and gender equality.
