The Emerging Field of Climate Finance: Theory, Practice, and Frontiers

Against the backdrop of global efforts to actively address the challenges of climate change, the development of climate finance, covering both investing and financing, has become an international consensus. Academically, climate finance has emerged as a burgeoning interdisciplinary field exploring the connection between climate change and financial activities, giving rise to climate finance theory. This chapter systematically introduces the conceptual issues of climate finance, reviews the latest research development in the field of climate finance through a bibliometric approach, and discusses the theoretical frontiers and application scenarios for the future development of the climate finance discipline. China’s experiences in climate finance are introduced to showcase the importance of a comprehensive approach that combines fund support, academic research, and industry collaboration.
