A Unit Cell Element for Reflectarrays Based on the Bowtie Shape

As the bowtie antenna is known for its wide band property, this shape is proposed here as a unit cell for reflectarray antennas. The bowtie shape is characterized by two parameters, namely width and height. To obtain variable phase, one of the dimensions of the bowtie element is changed, while the other one is kept constant. The CST Microwave Studio Suite was used to model and analyze the performance of the proposed unit cell that was simulated using waveguide port excitation. The obtained results of the reflection coefficient in phase and magnitude were compared to assess the performance of the proposed unit cell. The simulations showed that as the dimension is increased, the response moves to a lower frequency because elements of larger size resonate at lower frequency.
