Japan’s Contribution to Human Security Through Connectivity a Case Study Investment in India’s Northeast

With time the concept of national security has expanded to include human security within its purview. For all available agencies and mechanisms for security, the state still plays a pivotal role, but in the Anthropocene epoch, States address and recognize a clusters of threats to human development. One such threat is spatial disparity in infrastructure and lack of infrastructure connectivity. Japan has been contributing to bridge the infrastructure connectivity gap since the end of the Second World War through the Official Development Assistance Program. It is also one of the first few countries that propelled conceptualization of human security as well. The concept has now found a dominant place in Japan’s 2022 National Security Strategy and its Free and Open Indo-Pacific Vision. the Northeast Region of India is an important segment of Japan’s vision where Japan’s contribution to infrastructure connectivity meets with its discourse on human security. This paper analyses Japan’s contribution to infrastructure development and connectivity in NER within the broader framework of promoting human security.
