Indian IT Industry and Innovation

The Indian IT industry is undergoing significant changes. India's leading IT services companies serve clients around the world and have grown into giant companies. Global MNCs are setting up R&D centers in India and accelerating the pace of developing new technologies. The surge in the number of start-ups is remarkable, with unicorns emerging one after the other. As global IT technology innovation and business shifts to emerging markets, there's a proactive effort by US and European companies to increase collaboration with the Indian IT industry. On the other hand, efforts by Japanese companies have been limited. This chapter looks at India's IT industry, which has continued to grow despite the pandemic, and how India is becoming a center of innovation as digitalization progresses. The chapter also examines the challenges Japan faces in the IoT/AI era and the potential for Japan and India collaboration to address and solve these challenges.
