SDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation

According to the comprehensive assessment report issued in 2021 by UN-Water, the world was already off track on SDG 6 even before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic (UN-Water. 2021. There are still 2 billion people worldwide without access to safely managed drinking water and 3.6 billion without safe sanitation facilities. In addition, 2.3 billion people lack soap and basic hand-washing facilities at home. Most wastewater is untreated before being discharged.
