Food Processing and Preservation

Edible processing involves transforming raw or undercooked ingredients into edible products for consumers. In order to maintain stable nutrient values and keep food quality at an expected level, food preservation involves a variety of food processing procedures. Growing, harvesting, processing, packaging and distributing food to customers all fall under the category of food preservation. The major goal of food maintenance is to stop unsuitable agricultural advancements, such as including value-added goods in the diet during harvest. Food putrefaction can be caused by a wide variety of chemical and biological interactions. Conventional and archaic methods of food preservation, such as freezing, chilling, pasteurising and drying, are acceptable for regulating the chemical and microbiological deterioration of food products. The methods used to combat these breakdowns are becoming more advanced, and they have gradually evolved into a highly interdisciplinary field of study in recent years. To preserve the food, highly inventive techniques including hurdle technology, high-pressure technology and radiations are used. The mechanisms, conditions, benefits and drawbacks of various eating practises are covered in this chapter.
