Prospectus of Genetically Modified Organisms in Food

摘要

As a consequence of the advancements in modern biotechnology, genetic engineering and modification have produced genetically modified (GM) organisms and plants, as well as genetically modified food, which may hold the secret to eliminating poverty, hunger, and malnourishment from the nation, yet some labeling problems, false beliefs, and myths led to the breakdown of all biotechnological progress. This review outlines the benefits, labeling concerns, and mechanisms of action for a variety of biotechnological tools used in genetic modification. India has permitted the growing of some genetically modified crops; however, the results are stunted and the needs of undernourished populations are ignored due to ignorance and religious beliefs. Therefore, further work is still required to confirm its safety for use by humans before it can be adopted widely. Current GM crop revolution is a result of scientific and technological advances in agriculture. With successful case studies in Australian canola and Indian cotton, GM crops hold great promise for reducing present and future issues in commercial agriculture. With the market for genetically modified seeds growing at a 9.83–10% compound annual growth rate and promising research directions in biofortification, accurate DNA integration, and stress tolerance, it is anticipated that GM seeds would boost commercial agriculture’s output and wealth.
