摘要

The study focuses on the contribution of construction and civil engineering to the New Urban Agenda (NUA) in Zimbabwe and its contribution to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The NUA is endorsed by the UN member states. A review of the progress in implementing the NUA in Zimbabwe and the contribution of the government, academia and industry was conducted. The study also covered the assessment of the contribution of professional bodies for the attainment of the NUA goals and the contribution of Education 5.0 through teaching, community outreach, research, innovation and industrialisation. Geotechnical, water quality and materials investigations were conducted as well as questionnaires and key informant interviews for providing the indicators for performance. Analysis of results was done using quantitative assessment tools as well as appropriate engineering software. Case studies on water and sanitation, integrated agro-processing plants, markets and smart settlements and the environment were done. The study concludes that, there is significant progress in addressing the main issues as evidenced by the models and infrastructure developed. The research recommends an implementation plan for the success of the NUA in Zimbabwe and Sub-Saharan Africa.
