Estimating Severity for Knee Osteoarthritis Radiographs Using Deep Learning and Machine Learning Algorithms

摘要

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint condition that affects the knees. This is a common source of incapacity in the elderly, and it produces excruciating pain and suffering in the smooth moment of the knee joints. If osteoarthritis is discovered early on, it can be treated and the patient can recover. Late diagnosis, on the other hand, may result in lifelong impairment or joint replacement. Also, manual detection takes time and requires highly skilled professionals. In the current work, several radiographic characteristics were retrieved from deep learning networks such as VGG16, VGG19. Finally, Machine Learning (ML) classifiers were employed to categorize the severity of the osteoarthritis stage. The results show that using Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques the doctors may detect and provide in-time treatment to patient.
