摘要

Parallelism is one of the form error controls distance between two surfaces or features and also play a vital role in alignment of parts in the assembly. When such form error exceeds the tolerance it may lead to difficulties between the mating parts for making a proper assembly, generating unbalance forces and vibrations which causes the system to generate noise or ends in malfunctioning. There are various techniques available for measurement of parallelism error. They are contact and non-contact type, current paper demonstrates a novel non-contact type approach which can be used instead of contact type as contact method consumes more time measurement. Which is also mode for causing wear and tear of measuring probe and specimen. The method includes acquiring an image, converting it a binary type, applying filters and applying the required threshold value. Further edge technique is applied to obtain the ready image for measurement. For further validation of results, the same specimen is used for contact error measurement where results of both techniques are compared. However, results revel that proposed study results are equitable to contact type.
