The Role of Digitization in Manufacturing

The fourth industrial age and the Web of Devices have made a major impact on the manufacturing sectors. The key elements of the fourth wave of industrialization are smart manufacturing and intelligent manufacturing. The terminology, guiding concepts, and technologies of smart production and intelligent manufacturing are examined in relation to Industry 4.0. In smart manufacturing, the use of modern technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), the worldwide web of Everything, the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics to streamline and increase the efficiency of production operations. Contrarily, intelligent manufacturing refers to the use of similar innovations to develop self-improving and self-learning production systems. The ramifications for employees and society as a whole are also covered in the paper, along with the advantages and difficulties of adopting intelligent and smart manufacturing in Industry 4.0. This review contends that intelligent and smart manufacturing has the potential to transform the manufacturing sector and the businesses to compete in the global economy, and must incorporate these new technologies.
