Metagenomics and its Applications
摘要
Metagenomics is the application of a range of genomic technologies and bioinformatics tools to directly access the genetic information of whole biological communities. Over the last five to 10 years, the area of metagenomics has produced substantial improvements in ecology, evolution, and microbial diversity, and there are currently numerous research laboratories actively involved in the subject. Newly found microbiomes in many habitats give important information about microbial diversity and function. As a result, the findings of metagenomic investigations have enabled new bacteria-based applications in human health, agriculture, and the food business, among many other disciplines. This paper outlines the core processes of metagenomics technologies as well as current improvements in bioinformatics tools that enable efficient and accurate metagenomics analysis. Finally, metagenomics is a strong tool for researching the microbial world, and it still offers a plethora of undiscovered applications. As a result, this paper also addresses metagenomics’ future potential. With an increase in activity comes an increase in knowledge and methodological skills, which will drive future advances in the sector.
