Genome-Wise Analysis for Drug Targeting

There is a wealth of genotype data available along with drug-response phenotypes, researchers can do in-depth investigations to uncover the genetic variables that impact drug response. Results from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have demonstrated links between genetic variants and the efficacy of medications as well as the adverse effects of those drugs. These successes don’t negate the fact that drug targeting and pharmacogenomics research designs face unique obstacles. In this chapter, we take a look at how GWAS analysis has progressed in medication targeting in the last 10 years. We track the evolution of publishing trends, including the medications and classes of treatments studied, and the clinical phenotypes used. Drug targeting in GWAS has benefited greatly from the work of many data-sharing consortia. We anticipate a greater focus on biobanks and stress the significance of determining which traits will lead to future advances in medication targeting.
