摘要

Developing an evaluation for the identification and preservation of valuable species is crucial for addressing the management and conservation of biodiversity. The use of the mitochondrial genome as a molecular marker has the potential to identify the species. Statistical analysis of molecular markers transformed the analytical capability required to investigate genetic diversity. The study on mitochondrial genes like COI, cytochrome-b, and D-loop delivers various scientific insights like an assessment between wild and hatchery populations, population structure, species identification, and genetic variation which have importance in the practice of aquaculture practice. In this chapter, we provide some insights related to the mitochondrial genes and their role in structural variation in fish diversity.
