Enhanced Plantlet Quality on Microponic System Containing Silver Nanoparticles

Microponic system is a propagation system which combines micropropagation and hydroponics; this is a potential method in plantlet production. This method combines the advantages of hydroponic techniques and micropropagation methods, overcoming limitations of traditional propagation methods (such as vitrification and reduced inhibition of ethylene gas due to good ventilation). It has been successfully applied to a variety of plants (including chrysanthemum, strawberry, and carnation) and demonstrates feasibility through factors such as good plant growth, culture without sterilant conditions, and the absence of added sugar and agar in the medium. Currently, this method has not had much research on woody plants; Passiflora edulis and Jasminanthes tuyetanhiae have not yet been recorded. In addition, micropropagation of these two plant species still faces some difficulties such as low in vitro rooting rate; thin, brittle, and easily broken roots; callus formation at the roots; browning of the roots; etc. This affects the plantlet quality and subsequent growth in the greenhouse. Therefore, this book chapter is presented to solve the above problems by proposing a new system; evaluate the growth, physiological, and biochemical aspects of plantlets in the microponic system; and compare with the micropropagation system.
