A Study of the Changes in Social and Environmental Well-Being Due to Delhi Metro in Its Precinct
摘要
This study examines the changes in social and environmental well-being within the precinct of the Delhi Metro. It explores the impacts of the metro system on various aspects such as ridership, commuting experience, economic development, employment opportunities, socio-economic development, air quality, green spaces, and traffic congestion. The findings reveal that the Delhi Metro has significantly increased ridership, providing a comfortable and stress-free travel experience for passengers. It has contributed to economic development by generating employment opportunities and improving the living standards of the local population. The presence of the metro stations has acted as catalysts for urban growth, attracting commercial, and retail establishments. Moreover, the implementation of electric trains and reduced vehicular emissions has led to cleaner and healthier air in the precinct, benefiting residents and commuters. The metro system has also increased green cover by planting trees, developing parks, and creating “green corridors.” Additionally, the Delhi Metro has successfully reduced traffic congestion, making the city more livable.
