摘要

In the realm of contemporary scientific inquiry, nanomedicine and nanodelivery systems represent a burgeoning and dynamic sector. This discipline harnesses nanoscale materials for dual purposes: as diagnostic instruments and as vehicles for the targeted and controlled conveyance of therapeutic agents. The utilization of nanotechnology in this context is pivotal for facilitating the precision-targeted administration of pharmaceuticals for the management of chronic human ailments. Recent years have witnessed the proliferation of significant deployments of nanomedicine, encompassing a spectrum of chemotherapeutic, biological, and immunotherapeutic agents, applied to a variety of disease conditions. This chapter delves into recent advancements in nanomedicine and nano-based drug delivery systems. It scrutinizes both the discovery and application of nanomaterials, focusing on their role in augmenting the effectiveness of both emergent and established pharmaceuticals, as well as in selective diagnosis through disease marker molecules. Furthermore, it conducts a comprehensive examination of the merits and demerits of nanomedicines, from their synthesis or natural derivation to their clinical applications. This chapter also integrates insights into the prevailing trends and prospective trajectories in the domain of nanomedicine, providing a holistic overview of its current state and future potential.
