Nanotheranostics: A Potential Diagnostic Tool in the Cancer Management: Befriending the Barriers

Nanotechnology has been an area of interest in medical science. Cancer nanotherapeutic is now progressing towards solving the limitations of conventional systems and the latest advancement in nanotechnology, in form of nanotheranostic that combine diagnosis and therapy, has been utilized for cancer management. In this approach, the radioactive drugs are combined to diagnose a disease as well as deliver it to the target, thus indicating the purpose of theranostic to provide one system at the same time. This strategic-based approach implies use of different nanoparticles such as polymeric nanoparticles, polymeric micelles, polymer conjugates, liposomes, gold nanoparticles, and iron oxide nanoparticles in effectively killing the cancer cells. The significance of nanotheranostic is to facilitate high bioavailability, target the site and release drug in controlled manner. This precision treatment, assures targeting only the tumor cells without harming the healthy cells and tissues. Nanotheranostics will provide a significant breakthrough that aim to utilize nanoscale materials for clinical applications and has become a reality, from “bench to bedside.”
