Bioscaffold and Their Applications in Tissue Regeneration: Angiogenesis, Bone, Skin, and Nerve Tissue Regeneration

Tissue engineering aims to restore, maintain, or improve tissue function through the use of biomaterials, cells, and bioactive molecules. In recent years, natural products have emerged as promising candidates for incorporation into tissue engineering scaffolds due to their bioactive properties and biocompatibility. This chapter summarizes the recent advances in the development of natural product-loaded scaffolds and their applications in tissue engineering. We discuss various types of natural products, such as chitin and chitosan, cellulose, starch, hyaluronic acid, collagen, fibroin, pullulan (PUL), keratin, elastin, alginate, fibrin, albumin, gelatin, and proteins, and their potential benefits in tissue regeneration. The applications of natural product-loaded scaffolds in various tissue engineering fields, such as vascular, bone, skin, and nerve tissue regeneration, are also discussed. Finally, we provide perspectives on future research directions in this field. Overall, this chapter highlights the potential of natural product-loaded scaffolds in advancing tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in the context of vascular, bone, skin, and nerve tissue regeneration.
