Natural Product-Loaded PCL and PLA-Based Bio-Scaffold and Their Applications
摘要
Tissue engineering is a multidisciplinary field that aims to create functional tissues by combining cells, biomaterials, and biochemical factors. In the rapidly advancing field of tissue engineering, bio-scaffolds stand as key protagonists. They act as a structural framework for guiding cells to repair or replace damaged tissues. This dynamic synergy is particularly pronounced with the incorporation of natural products into bio-scaffolds, emerging as a focal point in the domain of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Natural products, known for their inherent biocompatibility and therapeutic potential, enrich the bio-scaffold landscape, elevating its capabilities in fostering optimal tissue regeneration. This book chapter not only navigates the synthesis and characterization of bio-scaffolds based on polycaprolactone (PCL) and polylactic acid (PLA) but also extends its exploration to the profound implications of incorporating a variety of natural products. The emphasis on design principles, fabrication techniques, and the controlled release mechanisms elucidates the meticulous engineering behind these bio-scaffolds. Furthermore, the chapter illuminates the vast spectrum of applications, spanning from wound healing and bone regeneration to drug delivery and cancer therapy, underscoring the versatility of natural product-loaded PCL and PLA-based bio-scaffold technology.
