Toxicological and Regulatory Aspects of Natural Product Based Bio-Scaffold

Natural product-based bio-scaffold is a structural framework made from natural sources such as plants, fungi, animals or microbes that can be used as a foundation or template to create bioactive substances that have the potential to be used in agriculture, medicine or other industries. Natural products like these provide useful bioactive components, but it is important to know their safety profile to avoid health and environmental hazards. The toxicology of natural product-based bio-scaffolds encompasses the examination of the possible negative consequences and toxicity related to the utilisation of natural component derivatives in many domains, including medicine, agriculture and cosmetics. In order to optimise the advantages of these substances and mitigate possible negative consequences on human health and the environment, it is imperative to comprehend the potential hazards associated with them and effectively apply suitable safety protocols. There is a convoluted web of relationships between national agencies, industry stakeholders and international norms that governs bio-scaffolds based on natural products. The regulatory framework was created to strike a balance between the competing needs of fostering innovation and expanding people’s access to helpful products and safeguarding the public’s health and the environment. This chapter aims to consolidate the pertinent literature within a unified framework, with the intention of facilitating future study in this field.
