Effect of Fault Correction Delay on Software Reliability Modelling in Agile Software Development

The increasing adoption of Agile testing environment has revolutionized how software is developed, enabling iterative and flexible approaches to meet evolving customer requirements. The adaptive nature of agile practices poses a challenge to ensure software reliability, considering the frequent release of multiple versions. Fault dependency, imperfect debugging, dependency among the modules and the varying impact of faults on the system influence the software reliability. To examine these effects, a software reliability growth model (SRGM) is proposed considering imperfect debugging and the two-step fault removal process consisting of fault detection and correction. A comprehensive analysis is conducted using data collected from Agile projects. The proposed model is compared with existing work, demonstrating its ability to predict faults more precisely by recognizing the effect of correction delay of different severity faults on software reliability. This approach enables development teams to prioritize and expedite fault removal, yielding enhanced software reliability, improved customer satisfaction, and reduced maintenance costs in Agile projects.
