Discussion

This chapter discusses the educational mission of the Congregation of Holy Cross (CHC) in Bangladesh over time, drawing on the evidence from archival and oral history data examined in the previous chapters. Our study reveals that CHC has had four primary aims. They include (1) education as a means of evangelism, (2) education as an instrument in developing and establishing the local church, (3) education as a means of diffusion of Christian ideals and influence in society, (4) and service to the nation. Similar to other missionary groups in Bangladesh and around the globe, the CHC educational mission was an integral part of its missionary work over time. The chapter also reflects on how the Congregation experienced and responded to the post-colonial period in Bangladesh and how the CHC to some extent maintains colonial dispositions in its educational institutions and missions today.
