Education and the Congregation of Holy Cross in Bangladesh
摘要
This chapter presents a historical and educational background to the Congregation of Holy Cross (CHC) in Bangladesh. It briefly describes the history of education in Bangladesh (then East Bengal) from the colonial period, including CHC and other western-based colonial and missionary education. It then presents the founding background and history of the Congregation of Holy Cross. In this context, it examines the life of Basil Anthony Moreau, the founder of the Congregation, and his views on Catholic education. Finally, it examines relevant changes to the Catholic Church over time that signaled important shifts for the CHC as an organization and for its educational mission in Bangladesh.
