Seed Containing Antiproliferative Drug in Phyto-Pharmaceutical Industry and Market
摘要
Seeds are the reservoir of various phytochemicals with numerous beneficial effects and a potential to promote health. While seeds are often considered as residues of agriculture industries, their importance as a vital source of bioactive compounds has been realized over the past few decades. Studies have shown that seeds of various plants including blackseeds (Nigella sativa), grapes (Vitis spp.), pumpkin (Curcubita spp.), citrus fruits, sesame, and others are rich sources of bioactive compounds including flavonoids, sesamin, proteins, along with various other nutrients. A significant number of these plant seeds have demonstrated antiproliferative activities when tested against various in vitro models. This chapter surveys the seeds of various plants exhibiting antiproliferative activities, their bioactive compounds responsible for the activity, and the methods followed in their assessment.
