Need of Carambola and Yunnan Pomegranate Seed in Controlling Proliferative Diseases

Natural drugs with few adverse effects can be found in abundance in nature. Fruits are widely consumed and thought to provide many health advantages. In addition to their aroma, flavour, and taste, fruit seeds are also recognized to have several therapeutic qualities. Several of these natural compounds have well-documented antibacterial, antioxidant, antiproliferative, anti-hypertensive, and antidiabetic effects. These phytochemicals are widely known for their capacity to serve as immunomodulators, immunoboosters, and anti-inflammatory agents. Their molecular action as anticancer drugs results in the death of cancer cells by inducing apoptosis, necrosis, and autophagy. This study’s objective is to provide updated knowledge on the antiproliferative properties of carambola and pomegranate seed extracts and their bioactive components as anticancer drugs. This chapter also provides a comprehensive update of all relevant in vitro, in vivo, clinical, and pharmacological studies conducted on these seed extracts with an emphasis on their potential as functional foods for the management, prevention, and treatment of cancer.
