Apple and Honey Peach Seeds: Morphology, Chemistry, Antiproliferative Properties and Toxicity Studies

In modern times, researches on cancer are increasing at a huge rate focusing to prevent and treat cancer by natural resources. There are so many healthy fruits that belong to different families having good nutritional effects as well as potency to control different health issues. Apple and honey peach fruits belong to Rosaceae family subsumed their name in the management of cancer due to antiproliferative properties of their seeds. This book chapter elaborately describes the morphology, chemistry, antiproliferative properties, and toxicity of apple and honey peach seeds. Morphological and chemical analysis revealed significant differences in the two seed types. Both seeds were found to contain high levels of polyphenolic compounds, with apple seeds containing higher levels of flavonoids and honey peach seeds containing higher levels of phenolic acids. In vitro studies showed that both apple and honey peach seeds exhibited significant antiproliferative activity against several cancer cell lines. However, toxicity studies revealed that the seeds could cause cytotoxic effects on normal cells at high concentrations. These findings suggest that apple and honey peach seeds may have potential as sources of natural compounds with anticancer properties, but further research is needed to assess their safety and efficacy for therapeutic use.
