摘要

Prostate cancer, a significant global health challenge, affects millions of men worldwide, with its incidence and mortality rates on the rise. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of prostate cancer, covering its etiology, pathogenesis, and current treatment approaches, with a focus on emerging biological therapies. The text delves into the diverse factors contributing to prostate cancer development, including age, race, genetics, diet, obesity, and smoking. Additionally, it explores the intricate molecular pathways involved in prostate cancer progression, emphasizing the role of androgen receptors and apoptosis regulation. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the evolving landscape of prostate cancer treatment, encompassing surgical interventions, radiation therapy, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), and emerging therapies such as biologics and immunotherapy. Specifically, it highlights the promising potential of biologics in prostate cancer management, including monoclonal antibodies, cancer vaccines, and immunomodulatory agents. The emergence of biosimilars as a cost-effective alternative for prostate cancer treatment is also discussed, underscoring the future prospects in improving accessibility and affordability of care. Overall, this chapter offers valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of prostate cancer and the evolving strategies like biosimilars that could be aimed at improving patient outcomes and reducing mortality rates.
