Autogenous–drying shrinkage in concrete is a complex phenomenon that combines the effects of autogenous shrinkage and drying shrinkage. This process refers to the volume reduction in concrete caused by both the chemical shrinkage that occurs during cement hydration (autogenous shrinkage) and the loss of moisture to the environment (drying shrinkage). This dual nature makes it a critical factor to consider in concrete that is exposed to severe environmental conditions, where both internal changes and external influences can significantly impact the integrity and performance of concrete structures.
