Resistivity in the context of cement and concrete refers to the material’s ability to resist the flow of electric current. This property is crucial as it indicates the concrete’s capacity to resist corrosive processes, which are often electrochemical in nature, such as steel rebar corrosion within concrete structures. The electrical resistivity of concrete is influenced by its pore structure and the moisture content within these pores. Denser concrete with fewer connected pores typically exhibits higher resistivity, which correlates with better durability and lower corrosion rates of embedded steel.
