Polymer Grouting

Polymer grouting involves the injection of polymer materials, such as epoxies, urethanes, or acrylates, into cracks, voids, or underpinning bases in concrete structures to restore integrity, enhance strength, and improve waterproofing. This method is particularly advantageous under severe environmental conditions where traditional grouting materials may fail due to chemical degradation, temperature fluctuations, or excessive moisture. The mechanism of polymer grouting entails the polymer entering the concrete’s capillary structures, bonding strongly with the substrate, and then curing to form a durable, impermeable seal. This process effectively stabilizes the structure, seals against water ingress, and can halt ongoing damage processes like corrosion of steel reinforcement caused by water and salts. However, polymer grouting can also introduce stress points due to the different expansion coefficients of the material and the concrete, potentially leading to future failures if not properly assessed and applied.
