Overcoming Digital Transformation Obstacles Dampening Marginal Offshore Field Operations

In recent years, upstream oil and gas companies have discussed digital transformation (DT) at length. Despite this increased awareness, marginal field operators (MFOs) have received little guidance regarding how to implement this transformation within their own organizations and the wider marginal field sector. DT’s direction is defined by a holistic perspective that considers all essential guiding components and their interdependencies. To consider DT as a dynamic process with far-reaching effects, a holistic perspective that transcends the limitations of any one effort is required. Depending on the conditions, the pre-existing resources and technology of an MFO can either benefit or hinder its efforts at DT. Highlighting the different challenges that must be addressed and requiring an exploratory study of its relevant elements.
