Usage Continuance of Social Media as a Source of News Among University Students
摘要
Wider acceptance of social media as an educational tool has elevated these platforms as a valid source for news. In higher education, students are encouraged to engage in information-seeking activities utilizing technologies to acquire knowledge quickly and conveniently. On the other hand, media organizations recognized this preference and slowly transitioned to social media as an alternative platform. Research must identify what factors will influence the continued use of new media for news dissemination to sustain its adoption today and in the future. We combined the TPB and TCT into a structural model and deployed an online survey. With 284 participants, empirical data was analyzed using PLS-SEM. Statistical results reveal that PU, attitude, and subjective norms positively affect the intention to continue using social media as a source of information. On the other hand, satisfaction did not result to the continued use of social media as an instrument for news consumption. We discuss our limitations and conclude the implications of our study to theory, academe, media, and social media.
