Transformative Effect on the Role of Telehealth During Pandemic

The role of telehealth during the times of pandemic has become significant and varied. The term telehealth encompasses various aspects. It consists of remote healthcare delivery, telemedicine, telecare, virtual care, tele consultancy, and telemonitoring. The COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented surge in the adoption and application in telehealth services. The term telehealth boomed during that time due to the adoption of policies on physical distancing and its decrees. In this chapter, we try to define telehealth, its futuristic aspects in social implications and ethical applications. We support our insights through the reflections gained through the literature survey from different databases. Telehealth has its glory due to the cost effectiveness and affordability. Even though it has its own advantages, telehealth has many challenges due to the lack of patient’s face-to-face contact to the medical officers, confidentiality, and issues in data security. We build a strong understanding of telehealth industry with detailing on its benefits, limits, and challenges.
