The Potential for Plant Growth Regulators to Impact Crop Productivity in Future Agricultural System

In contemporary agriculture, plant growth regulators are commonly utilised for plant growth promotion. By altering a crop’s rate, pattern, responses to the internal and external factors that control development from germination to post harvest through vegetative growth, reproductive development, maturity, and senescence or aging, plant growth regulators can modify a crop. Plant growth-promoting microorganisms are well known to increase plant growth and crop harvest by the production of various secondary metabolites and atmospheric nitrogen conversion into ammonia, through induced systemic resistance and systemic acquired resistance. It enables more sustainable agriculture without impairing ecosystem function. This chapter will focus on the role of microbes as plant growth regulators, stress tolerance, soil health management and sustainable crop production, current progress, and the challenges of the sustainable crop production.
