摘要

This chapter delves into the crucial role of biofertilizers in sustainable agriculture and highlights the transformative potential of metabolomics in unraveling intricate biochemical processes. Biofertilizers, comprised of beneficial microorganisms, address global concerns surrounding food security and environmental sustainability. These formulations actively contribute to soil fertility, plant growth, and resilience through symbiotic interactions with host plants. Various biofertilizer formulations and associated challenges are discussed, emphasizing the emergence of metabolomics as a potent tool for decoding plant–microbe interactions. Metabolomics allows the identification of unique metabolic signatures, elucidation of plant response mechanisms, detection of biochemical signaling, assessment of nutrient uptake, and evaluation of stress responses. The chapter explores techniques and methodologies in metabolomics, providing a roadmap for its application in unraveling the dynamic interactions between plants and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). Additionally, the significance of rhizosphere metabolomics in understanding biofertilizer-PGPR dynamics is discussed. Looking ahead, future prospects in metabolomics research involve advancements in analytical methods, integration with omics technologies, the utilization of bioinformatics tools, and an expanded focus on ecological and environmental impacts. This evolving field of research is poised to optimize agricultural practices, contribute to the preparation of tailored biofertilizers, and support the establishment of resilient and sustainable food production systems globally.
