Supplementing Micronutrients to Plants Through Microbes

Micronutrients play a vital role in plants, and though they are required in minor quantities, their importance is immense. The deficiency of micronutrients hinders the growth and quality of produce, and the end user also gets affected. Micronutrients can be applied artificially or managed through agronomic practices or microbe-mediated bioavailability is also explored. Among all the methods, microbe-based methods are feasible and cost-effective. Several microbes are being explored for micronutrient supplements and the development of biofortified varieties. However, more focus is required on the microbiome-based approaches to deliver the unanswered areas of scope. Lack of information on the importance and role of microbes in making micronutrient availability hinders the growth in this area. Hence, efforts were taken to delineate some of the more focused issues in this chapter.
