Pyogenic Granuloma

The pyogenic granuloma is a distinctive clinical entity originating as a response to a nonspecific infection. It is a common tumor-like growth of the oral cavity that is considered to be nonneoplastic in nature. Although it was originally thought to be caused by pyogenic organisms, it is now believed to be unrelated to infection. In spite of its name, it is not a true granuloma.
