Cat Scratch Disease

Cat scratch disease is a self-limiting lymphadenitis caused by Bartonella henselae. The disease begins in the skin but classically spreads to the adjacent lymph nodes. Cat scratch disease is considered one of the most common causes of chronic (greater than 3-week duration) regional lymphadenopathy in children and adolescents. It is primarily a disease of childhood, with 90% of patients younger than 18 years.
