Current Clinical Advancements of Nanocarriers for Brain Targeting and Limitations in Clinical Translation

摘要

As medicine of modern age, nanocarrier-based drug therapy ascertained their potential over conventional medicine. Starting from the release control to drug targeting, minimized side effects, improved drug efficiency, and patient compliance, nanocarriers take upper hand. Successful translation of research hypothesis led to clinical availability of a good number of nanomedicines intended for a range of physiological conditions like kidney dysfunction, ADHD, cancer, analgesics, antimicrobial, and many more. The overall market size of nanomedicine is above one trillion. After all these advancements, very limited or nearly no nanoformulation is approved for neurodegenerative disorder owing to the complex anatomy and associated challenges of brain drug delivery. In this chapter, we have highlighted the current clinical advancements of nanocarrier-based formulations for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, ongoing clinical studies, and challenges in clinical translation.
