摘要

Mind wandering and neuroeconomics are closely related to each other since a wandering mind can never reach clear decisions. The best simile for the mind is to consider it like a stormy ocean. Just as innumerable waves arise each moment in the ocean as a result of a few known and several unknown factors; similarly, thoughts keep arising in the mind as a result of inputs from the various sensory modalities, emotions, dreams, memories and several unidentifiable factors. Yoga helps in creating excellent coordination between the mind and body in such a way that one gains full control over oneself. Although there are different techniques for practising Yoga, the aim of all of them is to achieve mastery over one’s own functions at the physical and mental levels. As per the ancient literature, Yoga means to unite or to join. Uniting here is related to synchronising the body, mind and soul for understanding oneself. This endows one with the ability to cope up with daily stressors and promote physical and mental health. Different techniques explained in yogic text as Ashtanga Yoga or eightfold steps help to balance the body, emotion and breathing. This chapter deals with the latest scientific perspectives of neuroeconomics and how it can be applied to diminish mind wandering through Yoga. The beneficial effect of Yoga on mind wandering and decision-making is already proven.
