In the wake of large-scale radiological incidents, swift and accurate dose assessment is crucial for effective triage and subsequent medical intervention. This chapter provides an insightful overview of various physical dosimetry tools employed to determine radiation doses both during and after radiological events. These methodologies play a pivotal role in guiding the prioritization of treatment for a substantial number of individuals exposed to radiation. The techniques elaborated upon in this chapter have been extensively researched and refined on a global scale. While the fundamental principles remain steadfast, ongoing efforts are dedicated to enhancing accuracy through modifications and additions. This chapter serves as a comprehensive introduction to the foundational principles and diverse procedures essential for accurate dose estimation. Prominently featured among the methodologies are the Thermoluminescence (TL), Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL), Electron Spin Resonance (ESR), and Nuclear Activation Analysis (NAA) techniques.
