Applications of Radioisotopes and Radiation Technology in Industry
摘要
Over the past few decades, a variety of techniques involving radioisotopes and radiation have been developed and established for diverse industrial applications. These methods encompass radiotracer techniques, radiometry, radiography, tomography, and nucleonic gauges. They are employed for diagnosing and measuring process parameters in industrial systems, as well as for using radiation processing techniques to modify the physical, chemical, or biological properties of materials and products. Radiotracer techniques utilize radioactive materials (radioisotopes) in an unsealed form, while other methods involve radioactive materials in sealed form or radiation generated by machine sources like accelerators and X-ray tubes. The advantages of these radioisotope and radiation-based techniques include online monitoring, high detection sensitivity, physicochemical compatibility with process materials, relatively quick implementation, and cost-effectiveness compared to conventional methods. In many cases, there are no viable alternatives for these techniques, making them indispensable for various applications. These commercially utilized techniques provide substantial benefits to industries worldwide.
