Fuzzy Logic Controller-Based DSTATCOM to Improve Power Quality in Distribution System

Power quality (PQ) is gaining a great deal of importance as more sensitive loads are introduced into the utility grid. Because most of the loads are non-linear in utility, the degradation of power quality leads to damage of equipment and temporary shutdowns are the general issues which are associated with PQ problems in utility. Those are like distortion in voltage and current for utility. To solve this problem a modern and important power device is introduced to reduce the distortions in utility grid which is the DSTATCOM. This device is flexible to reduce the distortions. The DSTATCOM is a static synchronous compensator used to mitigate the harmonics in utility grid. A fuzzy logic controller was introduced to improve the performance of DSTATCOM further. The system is designed and simulated using the MATLAB/SIMULINK for different types of faults and simulation studies are presented.
